Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) lashed out at a reporter this week after being pressed on major discrepancies in her reported net worth — a swing from millions of dollars to just tens of thousands.
The confrontation came after new filings dramatically revised earlier figures.
In May of last year, Omar reported that she and her husband, Tim Mynett, held assets valued between $6 million and $30 million. But an amended disclosure, first highlighted by The Wall Street Journal, placed their wealth at between $18,004 and $95,000.

Omar has attributed the gap to accounting errors.
A reporter pressed her directly on how such a large discrepancy could occur.
“Congresswoman Omar… how did you make such a big mistake?” the Lindell TV reporter asked.
“I think you’re stupid for asking me anything,” Omar shot back.
“I don’t want to tell you jack s—. How about that? Have a good day.”
Earlier reporting had suggested Omar’s net worth surged dramatically based on the original disclosure. That claim has since been undercut by the amended filing, which her office says more accurately reflects liabilities tied to the couple’s business interests.
Those holdings include ventures linked to Mynett, such as a venture capital firm and a California winery, both of which were previously listed with multimillion-dollar asset ranges.
In the updated disclosure, those values were effectively wiped out once liabilities were factored in.
Omar’s office insists the correction was voluntary and made as soon as discrepancies were identified.
“The amended disclosure confirms what we’ve said all along: The congresswoman is not a millionaire,” a spokesperson said.
But the issue is not going away.
Republicans are seizing on the situation, arguing the scale of the revision raises broader questions about transparency and accuracy in congressional disclosures.
House GOP Whip Tom Emmer said ongoing committee reviews could determine whether further action is warranted.
“If Ilhan Omar is discovered to have been involved in any or to have benefited in any way from any fraud, she must be held accountable,” Emmer said.
