The Democratic Party’s flirtation with socialism has become a full-blown love affair.
Nearly 60% of Democrats now view socialism favorably, while only 18% hold an unfavorable opinion of it, according to a new CBS News/YouGov poll.
Capitalism receives an almost inverted response.

Just 32% of Democrats view capitalism positively, compared with 50% who hold a negative view.
The shift is even more dramatic among college-educated Democrats. Seventy-one percent of that group favors socialism, while only 16% views it negatively.
The findings arrive as Democratic Socialists of America-backed and allied candidates score primary victories across the country and intensify the fight over the Democratic Party’s ideological future.
Most of those socialist breakthroughs have occurred in heavily Democratic districts where the decisive contest is the primary rather than the general election.
But DSA leaders have openly described ambitions far beyond blue enclaves. The movement wants to capture Democratic institutions and move the party sharply leftward at the local, state and federal levels.
The poll suggests that Democratic voters may already be moving in that direction.
Socialism now enjoys a 41-point net-positive rating among Democrats. Capitalism sits 18 points underwater.
That contrast helps explain why openly socialist candidates and policies once confined to the party’s fringe are increasingly entering its mainstream debates
