Rep. Brandon Gill’s Bluntness Exposes the Barbarians of Abortion

It seems that even for zealots of the evil, advocating for access to abortion is easier than talking about abortion itself.

Testifying on Tuesday before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, Professor Jessica Waters, Director of the American University School of Public Affairs Leadership Program, refused to answer Rep. Brandon Gill’s line of questioning.

Lawmakers and guests were assembled to discuss “The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (aka the FACE Act) — legislation that’s been weaponized and applied unevenly against pro-life advocates.

In challenging Professor Waters’ characterization of abortion as routine healthcare, Rep. Gill asked the witness about her favorite type of abortion.

“I am an advocate for patients having access to the full realm of reproductive health care,” she replied.

Rep. Gill pressed on.

“But do you have a preferred method of abortion that you like?”

Professor Waters answered she didn’t have a favorite method.

Rep. Gill then proceeded to describe some of those methods:

“The first type is called a suction abortion,” he told her. “This is when the cervix is dilated and a strong suction, twenty-nine times the power of a household vacuum cleaner, tears the baby’s body apart, and sucks it through the hose into a container. Do you prefer that method?”

“I stand by my former testimony,” Waters replied.

“That sounds kind of gross, doesn’t it?” Gill acknowledged. “That was pretty gruesome. Do you agree?”

He continued:

“Okay, what about this one? This one is called dilation and curettage. After dilation of the cervix, a sharp looped knife is inserted into the uterus. The baby’s body is cut into pieces and extracted often by suction. Do you prefer that method?”

Waters once more declined to answer the question, suggesting it was irrelevant to the issue at stake.

“You’re a pro-abortion advocate,” Rep. Gill pushed back. “You don’t want to talk about abortion itself. Why is that? Is it because it’s uncomfortable to talk about? It should be uncomfortable.”

Rep. Gill then went on to discuss the “dilation and evacuation” method of abortion.

“Forceps are inserted into the uterus, grabbing and twisting the baby’s body to dismember him or her. If the head is too large, it must be crushed in order to remove it. Do you prefer that method?”

But Professor Waters stuck to her talking points.

“It’s uncomfortable to hear this, isn’t it?” he shot back. “It is. I think it is because it’s barbaric and evil. How about this one? It’s called the saline injection.”

He then described the horrific process.

“It’s when a twenty percent salt solution is injected through the mother’s abdomen into the baby’s amniotic fluid. The baby’s skin is burned off. The baby ingests the solution and dies of salt poisoning, dehydration, and hemorrhaging of the brain.”

Once more, Rep. Gill couldn’t get Professor Waters to give a reaction to the graphic description of the specific type of abortion.

“I wouldn’t want to talk about this either if I were you because it is barbaric and evil,” he told her.
