AGOURA HILLS, CA — Officials working on new construction in California were surprised to learn that their own state, which was struggling to build a bridge for butterflies over the course of four years at a cost of over $100 million, had apparently once developed and built the P-51 Mustang in just 102 days.
The North American P-51 Mustang, one of the most popular fighter planes during WWII, was designed and developed in just over three months, with its first flight recorded just 47 days after the completion of its initial prototype. All this, despite being significantly more complicated than a simple bridge.
“This is impossible,” said Connor MacLyrr, Chief Engineer, as he looked over the records of the P-51’s development. “It took three years just to get the permits for this bridge. You can’t design and build a plane in 102 days without witchcraft.”
According to California lawmakers, the comparison between the speed of the P-51 Mustang’s construction and the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing was unfair because one involves innovative technical development and the other is just a bridge.
“I can make a paper airplane in minutes, but my popsicle bridge always collapsed,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said, reflecting on a school science project. “So don’t tell me bridges are easy.”
At publishing time, California announced that its investigation into why the bridge was taking so long to complete had entered its third year.
