GALILEE — The disciples of Jesus of Nazareth got a big laugh after one of their own turned out to be a giant loser who couldn’t even cast one demon out of a kid.
A man had brought his young son to James, the son of Alphaeus, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, to be healed. The boy was suffering from seizures, and his father thought that surely his boy could easily be healed by any one of the famous followers of Jesus, but it turned out he was wrong, and James totally biffed it.
“Oh man, James, what a loser you are,” joked Thaddeus. “James the Lesser is what I think we’re going to call you from now on.”
“Oh! Burn!” chimed in John. “Sick burn, Thad.”
“What a little baby disciple you are,” continued Thaddeus. “You can’t even cast one little demon out of this little kid!”
The eleven other disciples began to taunt James by alternatively chanting, “James the Lesser! James the Lesser!” and “Loser! Loser!”
After thoroughly roasting little tiny James the Loser, the other disciples tried to cast the demon out of the boy, but they found that they could not do it by their own power either.
At publishing time, Jesus had shown up to roast all the disciples for having weak faith and telling them that if their faith was even as little as a teeny tiny mustard seed, they could have driven out that puny, pathetic demon too, but they didn’t because they had “little baby faith like little baby disciples.”
